As a sweet treat, this has a (relatively) modest amount of sugar. I try to watch carbs and sugar generally but an occasional indulgence is good for the soul. I always hark back to the long and vigorous life of Julia Child when I think about these things.

I agree, same here. I don't like to put a lot of sugar in things especially if there's natural sweetness from cherries etc. One of my favorite cookie recipes uses only 1/3 cup of sugar and that works just fine.

Kathy, I also grew up being warned about dire reactions to overeating cherries, but I never once stopped enjoying eating them in large amounts each summer. I wanted to let you know I just prepared your cherry crisp tonight & we were not disappointed! So delicious and the crumbly crust texture is the best! Thank you for sharing your recipe with us. Summer is looking up already!

I bought myself a cherry pitter at the grocery store (in the 50% off bin) simply to be ready for fresh cherries (both sweet AND sour) and am fortunate to use it once a year. It was shaped like a cherry and stem and I could not resist. It takes up very little room and goes well with my yellow, lemon shaped juicer.

I heard that story about the cherries 🍒 making you sick. My grandmother would not allow us to eat cherries and drink milk as she was certain it would poison us. I didn't like milk then so I was good with that reasoning at the time! Cherries are my favorite fruit! 🥰🍒

Yes!!!!! I guess that;s where it came from. I love them too and I'd heard that story as a kid too. Cherries, Figs, and Persimmons are big favorites here
